MacKenzie-Childs Inspired Haunted House

You know I love going from “old to gold,” and this project hit the mark! I was inspired by the whimsical charm of a MacKenzie-Childs Haunted House and decided to put my own spin on it. This fun DIY starts with a tired, miniature Christmas house, some black spray paint, and a few miniatures. Here’s how I made it happen! the house I thrifted several miniature houses from estate sales and Goodwill for about $3 each, choosing ones that weren’t overly Christmas-themed. After a couple of coats of black spray paint and primer, I had a solid base to work with. I even painted the wood the house...

MATERIALS base I used a candle pedestal as the base for my display stand. I had 2 at home but found 5 more...

Adorable Baby Shower Attendee Gift: The Perfect Candle

When it comes to baby showers, everyone looks forward to the delightful and thoughtful favors they get to take home. One of the most charming attendee gifts you can offer is a beautiful candle. Here are four elements that make this candle an adorable keepsake: 1. Vessel: A Touch of Elegance The vessel of the candle is the first thing that catches the eye. For this baby shower, we chose an iridescent glass jar. The pastel hues give it movement and interest. The glass sparkles in the light, making it a lovely decorative piece even after the candle is used....

Storybook Style Baby Shower: How ChatGPT Inspired the Theme Name, Invitations & Backdrop

Planning a baby shower is always an exciting endeavor, but it can also be quite challenging to come up with a unique and memorable theme. When we (my sisters and I) started brainstorming ideas for Baby Carmela’s (my grand niece) shower, we wanted something charming, yet memorable. That’s when I decided to turn to ChatGPT for some creative inspiration. The Spark of an Idea We had the initial centerpiece idea, but we weren’t sure what to name the theme of the shower. The aim was to create centerpieces using baby girl clothes on display stands. The outfit themes were initially...

Christmas Decor Round Up

If you love Christmas decor crafting, you may already be busy with creating beautiful things to give sparkle to your home. I love holiday decor. The warm lights and colors all seem to bring joy to the room. In this blogpost, I have pulled together some inspiration to get you in the spirit of the holidays. It is November. Over the years, I’ve enjoyed making these items for my home or as gifts. Plaques This plaque is a great gift and so pretty around the house! I used scrape wood, the Cricut, hot glue and glitter. Here are the details...

Outdoor Lanai Curtains

My lanai gets lots of afternoon sun which can get too hot to enjoy and heats up the house. As my villa is a get-a-way property, I didn’t want to splurge on an elaborate solution such as blinds. So, I found an affordable curtain to filter the Florida sun. Fabric This curtain will be exposed to sun, rain and wind so I was reluctant to invest in expensive outdoor fabric. I chose drop cloth as the fabric after seeing many lovely curtains made from this fabric. And, (1) it’s inexpensive; (2) the edges are finished (I didn’t have a sewing...

DIY Dragonfly Patio Decor

This dragonfly patio decor was simple to assemble and made from repurposed fan blades and spindles. Hand-painted detail, as always, adds the beauty to the decor. The fan blades were scuff sanded, primed and painted with a white base. I had SW Snowbound on hand. Painter’s tape can be helpful in making checks. Since the surface was flat and the checks are larger in size, I used the tape to achieve more crisp lines. (Always a little something to touch up.) I sprayed varnish to protect the blades. The spindles have a black/white base as well. And, a bit of...

DIY Christmas Decor with Scrap Wood, Cricut, Hot Glue & Glitter

Hand made gifts are a great choice, especially gifting to those who aren’t crafty! And, the craft doesn’t need to be expensive or time-consuming! I had scrap wood on hand from a toy box I made for my great nephew. I cut these scraps to size; used Restore a Finish for a light coat of base stain; and, then, white washed (small amount of diluted paint on brush) over the stain. I used the Cricut to cut sparkly letters! This was a learning for me! This is what I learned! I used a bit of trial and error to adhere...

Vintage Rolling Pins Turned Decor

My sister and I picked up these rolling pins at an estate sale – 7 pins for $25 – and, thought these pins could be fashioned into something special! I gave these pins a good wash; a coat of primer and a white base coat! I had SW Emerald Urethane in Snowbound on hand. I added black stripes to the flat portion of the handle. I worked my way down the handle adding red, green, checks, etc! I cut sparkly vinyl letters on the Cricut! I sprayed the pins with poly! And, added some pretty ribbon with beads! These turned...

Baby Shower Welcome Sign

Baby shower decor! It’s so fun to create! This welcome sign was my DIY contribution to my niece’s baby shower. I was so sorry to miss it, but happy to add to the decor! The sign stand was originally made for my son’s wedding shower a couple of weeks earlier. This blogpost has the details on how that was made. Acrylic I purchased the 24 x 36 frosted acrylic at Menards for ~ $40. It was $7 less than the piece I got at Home Depot for the last sign. I am still looking for a better source for the...

MacKenzie Childs Inspired Courtly Check |Upcycled Spice Rack

I found this vintage spice rack at an estate sale and the size was perfect for a small space in my kitchen to hold essential oils. So, if you are looking for something vintage for your oils, the spice rack was perfect! I added some decorative trim to the shelves for interest and to prevent the oils from falling from the shelf. I primed and painted the spice rack in SW Alabaster. (My go-to white.) I really wanted to try the new MacKenzie Childs Courtly Check pattern on something (see below) and thought this was a great project to give...

Wedding Shower Balloon Arch

What’s a wedding shower without balloons? To be honest, this is something I wanted to try and knew my son’s wedding shower would be the perfect occasion. Balloon Arch Stand The balloon arch would be freestanding in the wedding shower event space. Meaning, there would be no good place to attach the balloons, apart from a “stand”. I did a test run on the arch and stand and discovered it would be best to build a stand with two sides and one top pole. I used PVC pipe for the sides and top; 90 degree elbow fitting to attach the...
