Budget-Friendly Front Door Transformation: Achieve a Stunning Look for Just $30!

Looking for a way to refresh the look of the entry to your home? Here are some key tips to consider when giving your front door an uplift with paint! You will be amazed at the difference it makes! And, this is a super quick and affordable project.

Which areas to paint

In my opinion, it is best to paint not only the door, but if there are other elements to the door package, those should be painted as well. For example, if the door has sidelights, the area around the glass should also be painted including the trim. (In this case, I used gel stain. The point is there is uniformity in the color.)

In the photos below, notice how the white trim detracts from the cohesive look of the door and side light.

Storm/screen door

Painting the screen door the same color as the front door makes a difference as well. When the storm/screen door is a different color, one’s eye stops at the storm/screen door (usually white/beige) and then the front door is less prominent.

What paint to use

I always use a good exterior paint on the doors. My “go-to” is Sherwin Williams Latitude Exterior Acrylic paint. And, I only need a quart. (~$20 with a 30% off sale) Prior to painting, apply a coat of primer (all purpose primer, just over $10 with a 30% off sale). I usually apply 2 coats for the best coverage.

I have painted multiple storm/screen doors and the paint has held up well! This a great Spring proiect and about a $30 investment.
