Kitchen Cabinet Update

Kitchen Cabinet Update

Paint and hardware can simply transform the look of 1990’s oak cabinets. And, this was my plan for the galley style kitchen in my investment property. While the kitchen had some great features (new appliances, huge pantry), the oak cabinets looked dated.

PAINT COLOR

For these cabinets, I wanted to try a couple of new (for me) ideas to add some interest. I used a less traditional blue (Magnolia Under the Stars) for the base cabinets and Alabaster for the uppers. I used Sherwin Williams paint products for both. The blue was a color match.

Painting this time was a bit more difficult, not because of the color or paint, but I think I didn’t sand and clean the cabinets well enough. I found this out on the lowers and was able to correct the approach on the uppers. It was discouraging but in the end, so pretty.

HARDWARE

These cabinets did not have hardware originally. I found hardware, coincidentally, on Facebook Marketplace. I wasn’t looking for any there, but it popped up on my feed. The handles if purchased new through Amazon, are about $5 each. I bought them for less than $1 each. These were in great shape. The brushed nickel worked well with the new kitchen faucet (also found through a liquidator on FB Marketplace).

These handles worked well for the cabinet doors and the large drawers. For the smaller drawers on the opposite side, I used decorative knobs from Home Goods. I used these knobs on the pantry, linen, bedroom bifolds doors and laundry room cabinet.

OTHER

Obviously, I updated the flooring, added quartz countertops, wall paint, lighting and a backsplash which all complete the look of the room.

So happy with how it turned out!
