Dollhouse DIY Bathroom Details

They say kitchens and bathrooms “make” the house! Well, this dollhouse is no exception! The tile, wallpaper and vanity are DIY showstoppers!

Tile

This DIY tile took some effort, but was simple to make! The tile was made with the hot glue and a silicone candy mold from Hobby Lobby. Resin is also a possible material option for the tile. Hot glue is affordable and I had it on hand! The process was quick. The hot glue dries quickly! Make your best attempt to fill all portions of the mold with equal amounts of hot glue. This ensures for a level floor. For this floor, the aim was to get the tile thickness to equal the height of the adjoining hardwood flooring.

I adhered the tile to a thin piece of cardboard using E6000 adhesive. (This adhesive is great and used throughout the dollhouse.) I sprayed this piece with black spraypaint. I created a ”frame” around the perimeter of the piece to hold the resin.

The tile did not have a perfect fit as regular tile. The aim was to use resin to fill the larger open spaces and create a flat surface. This didn’t work out exactly how I envisioned. I over-poured the resin to the extent that the individual tiles were not visible. (Not good.) Also, I removed the frame after 2 hours (too soon) and the resin drained from between the tile. The good news is, I was able to drain enough resin so the tiles were visible.

The texture and sheen on the piece was very cool and added lots to the design of the bathroom!

Wallpaper

In some cases, I purchased wallpaper images from Etsy for wallpaper (kitchen). In this instance, I copied a wallpaper image and created my own file in Canva. While, there weren’t perfect repeats like real wallpaper, it worked out! I printed the DIY wallpaper on cardstock and adhered it with spray adhesive.

Vanity, Tub, Toilet

I purchased a 3 piece bathroom set from Hobby Lobby for about $10. I thought this was super affordable for ceramic pieces. However, I am generally not a fan of pedestal sinks and added a vanity.

The vanity was also an affordable purchase from the Dollar Tree. It seems to be a multi-purchase piece. It also served as a desk in the bedroom! You can’t beat $1.25 for a dollhouse vanity. The vanity was stained using Restore A Finish (on hand). The faucet is a cup hook, sprayed gold. The handles are small beads, sprayed gold.

The mirror was a piece from the disassembled lantern, also from the Dollar Tree. (The decorative panels were used as wall decor in the bedroom.)

Lighting

The sconces on each side of the mirror are made from miniature chair legs, buttons and beads and painted gold and white. They were adhered to the wall with E6000.

The chandelier over the bathtub is a medicine cap and dangling earrings. I drilled two small holes in the medicine cap and used the earring back to secure the earring to the cap.

Wall Decor

The wall decor was snagged from Etsy and scaled and framed with slim craft sticks.

All the details came together so nicely!
