Wood detail on walls adds such dimension even in small spaces and a little addicting. In two of my bathrooms, there is a short wall space and I was trying to use some scrap wood and I needed to add a solution to hang towels. Enter batten with hooks!
My villa was originally intended to be a flip, so I painted all the walls SW Alabaster (soft white). Therefore, the walls were a blank slate with little dimension — just clean and bright. This is one of the”before” pictures, after the flooring was installed. The blank wall I added batten to in on the right.
I carried the “header” design from window/door casing to the header of the wall feature. And, used the same size batten as the window/door casing. Dimensions below.
Shown below on bathroom wall. In this bathroom, I used scrap wood from the casing.
I find it easiest to build and caulk the header prior to attaching it to the wall. I build/install this first, then add the vertical boards. Photos below of second bathroom install.
The nail holes were filled using wood filler and all the seams were caulked before painting.
I added these hooks for towels. (That was the intention, instead of a towel bar.)
This was a quick project and a great one for a beginner. The batten is addicting. I installed this in several places in the villa. It adds such dimension to a blank wall.
