Yesterday, I hosted our second Christmas craft lunch with the lovely ladies in the family. The craft this year is a simple, but a very pretty Christmas ornament. And, it was very affordable to make. I took my inspiration from Lilac Lane DIY Studio’s post on Facebook!
Supplies
Arabesque Tile – Lowe’s (I found two types. One, with a gray marble look and the other white glossy. The white glossy tile was less expensive and just as pretty.
Vinyl – I used Cricut red vinyl. This can be purchased from JoAnn, Hobby Lobby, Michaels, Amazon, etc.
SVG Patterns – I purchased this Christmas bundle from Etsy.
Felt – This can be purchased from JoAnn, Hobby Lobby, Michael’s, online, etc.
Ribbon – The ribbon for this project was an estate sale find!
E6000 – This adhesive can be purchased from Home Depot, Lowe’s, Amazon, Michael’s etc.
Lettering
I selected a few favorite holiday designs from the SVG bundle and sized them to fit the tile. I was also mindful of the amount of detail in the design to avoid excessive picking.
Ornament Front
Remove the vinyl lettering from the mesh. In most cases, this was easy to remove. The vinyl lettering is attached to the tile using the standard Cricut vinyl lettering process. It took care to ensure the lettering adhered to the transfer tape. I found applying heat (hair dryer)allowed for easier removal.
Ornament Back
I traced the shape of the tile to create a pattern. I cut the felt using the pattern. The ribbon and felt were adhered to the tile back using E6000.
The ornaments turned out quite beautifully! And, it was such a fun, crafty, get together!
