I’ve been gearing up for seasonal decor and wanted something pretty, functional, and affordable that would allow me to easily swap out prints—whether it’s for seasonal changes, travel photos, or special occasions—without the expense of framing. These DIY poster hangers are the perfect solution! They’re super easy to make, fully customizable in size and detail, and offer a stylish way to display prints. Let’s dive in with these simple steps to create your own!
materials:
Trim pieces (ideally trim from your scrap wood pile, nothing heavy)
Stain and/or poly (ideally whatever you have on hand)
Washers
Picture frame hooks
Twine or ribbon
instructions
- Cut trim pieces to directed length. Sand and clean in preparation for stain. I have a miter saw and it was quick and easy. If you don’t have a saw, the big box stores will cut the pieces to the needed length for free in many cases.
02. Sand and clean to prepare the trim for stain and poly. I have an orbital sander but you could easily use a 220 grit piece of sand paper.
03. Stain and poly the pieces of trim and let dry. A small amount of stain and poly are needed so I used what I had on hand!
04 Adhere magnets to front piece of trim and washer to back piece of trim using E6000.
05. Using a small hook from a picture frame kit, screw hook into the top piece of trim near each end. Thread twine through the two hooks with enough slack to allow for hanging.
NOTES:
You can use trim pieces at the top and bottom for whatever you are hanging. I think this looks great and has a similar effect as a frame. However, if you are hanging a poster weight item, the bottom trim tends to slide through the bottom trim pieces. This can still be used as a poster hanger, but works better if only using the top pieces of trim. See photo below.
