If you’ve painted with a sprayer, you know overspray mist is messy! Recently, I painted cabinets in a large kitchen and there was lots of spraying and the potential for a lot of overspray and dust! For this project, I made the effort to build a booth to contain the overspray. It was really quite simple!
Materials
3-Way PVC Fittings (8 needed, this is a pack of 12))
1 inch 10 ft pipe ( I purchased 8, bulk price)
Clamps
Saw (I used my miter saw but anything will really work)
PVC Cuts
(4) 7 ft (using the 10 ft pieces)
(8) 5 ft (halving the 10 ft pieces)
PVC Assembly
Insert (4) 5 ft PVC pieces horizontally into (4) fittings to create the bottom square
Attach (4) 7 ft PVC pieces vertically at each of the corners
Attach (4) fittings at the top of the vertical pieces
Attach (4) PVC pieces horizontally to connect the each of the sides
Tap each of the connections with some force to ensure the connection is secure
Plastic
The plastic I purchased is a good weight and not too expensive (I tossed at the end of project). It stayed put and didn’t blow as I was spraying. I placed plastic on the floor of the booth under the PVC. Then, I draped the plastic over the top rods and secured using clamps (because I had them). I left an opening at the front (and, near the opening of my garage) to come/go.
I fashioned a stand from a saw horse to hang the cabinet doors while painting. It worked well for this project, but, I will make something more steady for the next project.
In hindsight, I should have made this some time ago! Super simple and effective! I will likely double the length for the next time I spray furniture and add plastic to the top.
