Window treatments can be affordable, functional and still transform the look of a room. When tackling the windows in my new townhome, I decided to shift my approach from simply choosing window coverings to choosing window dressings. Go from drab to dramatic with these five tricks!
Source
Window dressings can be expensive, but with a bit of shopping, there are some great choices that are super affordable. Kohl’s has such a variety to choose from and ALWAYS has a sale and stackable discounts. (Never buy anything from Kohl’s without a coupon or a sale.) These Sun Zero Extreme Black Out curtains were on sale, plus another 20 percent discount, Kohl’s cash and free shipping. For three large windows, including curtain rods, I spent $166. The quality of the curtains is amazing – so substantial.
Pattern
My room was principally neutral with a lot a grey, beige, greige and solid colors. To add some interest and length, I added some patterned fabric to the bottom of the curtains. (This particular window is 130 inches from floor to ceiling (super tall) and the longest available length of these curtains was 108 inches). I ordered some sample fabrics to see what would work well with the color and texture of the curtains.
Height
The length of these curtains contributed to the dramatic effect of these window dressings. Hanging curtains from the ceiling is key to visually maximizing the size of the window.
Texture
The fabric texture can add dimension and interest to the room. This fabric has a sheen which contracts well against the flat paint color and satin finish on the hardwood.
Color
While gray is still considered a neutral, the depth of the color and the contract to the wall color added interest!
I am so happy with how these affordable curtains dressed the window and didn’t break the bank!!
