Framing Puzzles and Games

Puzzles are so fun to work on this time of the year! (Winter!) Cavallini Papers makes fun vintage themed puzzles and these are some of our favorites.

I framed the vintage ”Travel” and ”National Parks” puzzles. The colors look great the other game boards I framed. (Below)

Building the Frame

Building the frame is relatively simple, requires a few tools (miter and table saws) and an extra set of hands are useful!

Using a table saw, I cut a 1/4 plywood or backer board to fit the size of the puzzle and allowing for the width of the trim. I made 45 degree cuts in the trim with the miter saw to create the frame. I dry fit the first piece of trim and measured the second piece. The pieces were glued together with wood glue. The seams were filled with wood filler and sanded. And, the area where the trim met the plywood was caulked. I sprayed the frames and used black paint on hand. Spray paint could be used as well.

Securing the Puzzle/Game board

I used this puzzle saver to preserve the puzzle. It was very easy to apply to the back of the puzzle. I used the plywood from the frame to support the puzzle while flipping it over. Construction adhesive was used to secure the puzzle and the game boards to the plywood.
