This semi-homemade pizza recipe is super easy and does not disappoint! I have been making this pizza for over 20 years and family & friends love it! It is a great meal for any occasion. We have this every Friday during lent (without the sausage!) (Some affiliate links)
Pizza
Ingredients
(Note: Sauce is for several pizzas. OK to freeze and use another time.)
- Rhodes Bread Dough (use as many loaves as the number of pies you’d like)
- 1 T olive oil
- 1 clove garlic minced
- 1 onion chopped
- 1.5 lb Italian sausage
- 1 1/2 t fennel seed
- (2) 28 oz Italian plum tomatoes, drained and chopped. Drain well
- 1/4 C parmesan cheese
- 1 1/2 t oregano
- 1 1/2 t basil
- 1 T salt
- 1 lb mozzarella shredded (I purchase a block of mozzarella and shred using this shredder. The cheese tastes so much better!)
Directions
- Set out dough according to instructions on Rhodes Bread Dough package (let rise for 3 – 5 hours). I place dough on a plate sprayed with cooking spray and cover with plastic.
- Drain (well) tomatoes, parmesan, oregano, basil and salt and simmer 25 minutes. (Note: I have also used Italian seasoning in a pinch. It still tastes great!)
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Roll out bread dough. (Spray rolling pin and surface with cooking spray.)
- Place dough on heated pizza stone wiped with a bit of oil oil. (I have had my stone for years.)
- Spread pizza sauce over dough and desired toppings.
- Cook pizza for 15-17 minutes. Check bottom of pie to ensure it is golden brown and cheese is melted on top.
Note: This pizza has no sausage. It’s a plain cheese pizza with a bit of mushroom. These slices of mozzarella and parmesan made it extra tasty though!
