Interior Doors as a Design Feature!

Interior Doors as a Design Feature!

Paint color, door design and hardware can transform the look of a plain door into something really eye catching. In a recent investment property renovation, I needed to replace the wood grain, brown interior doors with brass door knobs. And, there were a lot — 6 handicap assessable, 2 bi-pass and 4 bifold. I haven’t had to do replace doors before, so I decided to have a little fun with it.

DOORS

I really liked the two panel door with a straight top edge. I checked Menards, Lowe’s and Home Depot and this style and the door sizes I needed were not standard stock items. A custom order was about $100/handicap assessable door. Urgh. My contractor “had a guy” and I spent $650 for all of the doors I mentioned above. A good deal and so pretty!

PAINT

I wanted to try a more bold color on the interior doors — something apart from the standard white. I chose Limousine Leather (Behr) for the paint color. And, used Sherwin Williams Emerald for the paint product with a color match for Limousine Leather. The paint finish is just lovely; it worked very well in the paint sprayer; and, dries quickly.

DOOR LEVERS

Door levers can be expensive especially when buying in quantities. Since I had to buy doors, I wanted to economize on the hardware if possible. In previous reno projects, I spent about $25 for a door lever with a lock. I found Amazon Basic Cambridge Door Lever for $16.99. These got good reviews, so I am hopeful they will stand up with time. I really like the black-on-black look – it doesn’t distract from the boldness of the door.

I am really happy with how the doors turned out. So fun!
