Journey to Ireland | Top 5 Insights

This was my third visit to Ireland and each time I fall in love with it a bit more. Beyond the picturesque surroundings, it is always an opportunity to embrace the comfort that comes from the outdoors and a good friend. This annual trip, always serves up a few insights and this year was no exception, all having the same reminder— do more of what I like!

INSIGHT #1 Reading

I am reminded each vacation how much I like to read. A good read, whether a fine piece of literature or a trashy novel, can bring lessons, relaxation and moments to escape into a story other than your own. Fortunately, this vacation, I made a great choice in Kristin Hannah’s, The Great Alone.  I was quickly captivated, although frequently disturbed, by the story and gobbled it up in a few days. Vacation travel always offers a good chance to read whether at the airport, on the plane, etc.

INSIGHT #2 Outdoors

Nestled in County Kerry, Ireland, the Dingle Penninsula, a comparatively small part of the world, offers a huge variety of nature’s elements with a taste of the ocean, mountains, lakes, green pastures, cattle and sheep. Although I consider myself a suburban girl, nature’s beauty is not lost on me. God, with all of His magnificence, married these beautiful elements in one place, making you wonder if it is merely a postcard.  Each morning, I ran to the ocean, taking in its enormity and on the return journey, I looked up at the mountains, passing cows and sheep along the way.  Just magnificent!

INSIGHT #3 Good Friends

My annual pilgrimage to Ireland is really just a visit to see my good friend, Sharon, who made Ireland her retirement home.  Sharon and I seem to never have a loss of conversation ranging from family, business, goals and aspirations, travel, cultures and values. She and her son, Travis, welcome me as part of their family and it just warms my heart.  Our time together serves as a reminder of treasured friendships and the joy that comes from staying connected, even if they are across the world. INSIGHT #4 Travel

I spent a lifetime learning and accumulating experiences related to travel that I am quite certain have contributed to my creativity, adaptability and appreciation of the world.  It has been a year since I went on holiday and am reminded how relaxing and rejuvenating it can be all at the same time.  The uniqueness of culture, languages, scenery, cuisine and the people are inspiring and a great reminder of the world outside of my neighborhood. INSIGHT #5 Television

Well, apparently, I can live without T.V.  Who knew?  This is shocking news as I can easily wind down a long day at work with an evening of mindless viewing.  This holiday, there was either little or no access to T.V. , or it was simply a choice to engage in great conversations or a good read.  I didn’t miss it whatsoever.  Something to ponder there about habits!

I had another great week in Ireland thanks to my friend, Sharon and her son, Travis.  I have returned refreshed and rejuvenated and looking to make some changes.  Thank you!
