Kitchen Remodel | 8 Updates with High Impact

When I downsized into the townhouse, the kitchen was one of the first things I tackled. It needed new cabinets, counters, flooring, appliances, lighting, backsplash and paint! Here is the “before”!

CABINETS

Kitchen cabinets were the biggest investment for the remodel, but an easy choice. I just remodeled my kitchen at my former house and still loved them — so, I got the same – Aspen (Aspect, Poplar). I stayed with the same layout, but added a pantry cabinet, pictured below and a garbage bin. I ordered a bathroom vanity cabinet at the same time. There was 6 weeks lead time to get the cabinets.

The cabinet hardware is champagne colored to match the faucet and the lighting. I got the hardware from Myknobs.com

COUNTERTOPS | SINK

The Argento quartz countertops are from Precision Stone Designs.I got the same countertop for the second bath as well.

The double bowl, farmhouse sink with the scalloped front adds dimension and interest. This is the second one I purchased and still loving them! The plumbing needed to be moved to accommodate the sink which sits lower in the cabinet compared to a traditional sink. This Delta faucet looks so pretty with this sink.

FLOORING

The flooring was replaced in the whole townhouse. The ceramic tile came up and hardwood was installed in the living/dining room, kitchen and hallway. I went with a wider plank and a dark walnut stain. (This is the living room, but a good view of the color.)

LIGHTING

Lighting was replaced in the entire townhouse. I installed these two fixtures in the kitchen! Check out this blogpost for my gold lighting choices.

Just recently, I added Otinlai under cabinet lighting which brightens things up quite a bit. I was so easy to “install” (really just sticky stripes) and rechargeable too!

APPLIANCES

All four appliances were replaced with brushed stainless steel. Another big purchase but the ones that came with the house were dated and did not work well with the new cabinetry. I am not a big appliance buff so I had few requirements. I wanted a “quiet” dishwasher; a refrigerator with an ice/water dispenser; and, a convection oven. I went with Whirlpool since we had a discount with them through work. This is my first time with Whirlpool, but I love them so far!

BACKSPLASH

Oddly, I found an inexpensive hex tile from Home Depot. (It seems like I always pick an expensive one!). This was my first time installing tile on a sheet with a mesh backing. I learned a few things along the way. I love how it looks.

EATING AREA

The kitchen eating area was dated as well. There was a chair rail and dated window treatments. I updated the window treatments with Roman Shades and we added a new coat of paint. This the “before” and “after”!

PAINT

Although not a lot of wall space, the walls and ceiling needed to be painted. We used Sherwin Williams Alabaster on the ceiling and Alpaca on the walls. These colors carry through from the living/dining rooms. Gotta love a fresh coat of paint to freshen things up!
