Master Bath Vanity & Storage

Master Bath Vanity & Storage

Re-purposing solid, beautiful, furniture pieces gives me joy!  AND, furniture inspired bathroom vanities made a this project really fun and a challenge.  I rehabbed the master bath in my investment property which included a new double bowl sink vanity.  Since I had good luck with fashioning a buffet into a vanity at my house, I decided to give it another try.

I purchased this piece from Facebook marketplace for $75, which included a hutch.  It was a bit too country looking for my taste, so I removed and replaced the front wood panel.  I added a shelf on the bottom for extra storage.  Important to note, before I decided to use this piece as a vanity, I consulted with my countertop contact to determine if a sink would fit in each side of the buffet, including room for plumbing.  As long as I used small sinks, it would work.

I applied a coat of primer and paint (SW March Wind) which I used on my kitchen cabinets). I see the paint sprayer to apply both the primer and paint.

The plumbing needed to be modified to accommodate two sinks.  (It’s more appealing to renters/buyers to have 2 sinks.) It cost $800 to change the plumbing.  And, I hired a dry waller to repair the drywall in this room and the other bathroom (just patching there) for $100.

After the countertop and sinks were installed, I added the backsplash.  The vanity was not deep enough to accommodate a quartz backsplash, so I got some glass tile in clearance at Floor and Decor and tiled the backsplash.  (I also used the same backsplash in the second bath.)

Now, while the vanity is super cute, there is little storage in it given the sinks are taking up quite a bit of space underneath.  There was enough room on that wall for a storage cabinet although it is not a standard size, in particular, not too deep.  I got my inspiration from the Shanty2Chic sisters and built a cabinet following one of their plans for a wall unit.

This is only the second thing I have built, so I learned about 1000 things.  I will save that for another blog post!  I painted the cabinet to match the vanity and it looks great!
