Particle Board Bedside Table Refresh

These sturdy pieces are still alive and well and looking for some updates! A friend of mine has two of these bedside tables and a dresser and wondered if anything could be done to freshen them up! Fresh paint, trim, new legs and hardware can update just about anything so here we go!

Prep

The particle board was mostly in good shape. (No water damage, etc.). I used a bit of Bondo to smooth out a couple of edges along the bottom. I also removed the bottom platform to make room for new ”legs”. I also added trim (shoe) to the drawers to add some detail. I selected a shoe that had a low profile rounded edge to stay in keeping with the rounded edges of the drawers. I used wood glue to attach the trim.

Paint

I used Zinsser Bin Primer spray to prepare the surface for paint. I heard this was a great product to use on slick surfaces (i.e. Ikea cabinets) and gave it a try. I lightly sanded before applying the first coat of paint with my HomeRight paint sprayer. I sanded with a fine grit in between each coat. I used Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane, Alpaca for the paint. It’s my favorite paint product.

Legs

I got these cute legs on Amazon. I need to add a few additional pieces of wood to provide a flat surface to screw on the legs.

Hardware

I’ve used the acrylic pulls on other pieces and just love them. I drilled the holes and attached!

I just love how it turned out!
