Looking through the photos from 2019, it was fun to see an accumulation of projects that was new for me. I was reminded of a few things — to leverage experience from previous projects, to optimize available resources and to have comfort that everything is “fixable”, if you make a mistake.
New colors and new patterns seem to fill my photo collection this year. Let’s take a look back!
COLORS
Paint is such an easy and affordable way to experiment with color. While I am not particularly bold in my color choices on rental properties as the properties need to appeal to many, I did make some different choices this year that made an impact. Blue, gray and black were colors that added impact to my properties this year.
- Gray – Sherwin Williams March Wind proved to be an awesome color for kitchen and bathroom cabinetry. It is subtle but more interesting than white cabinetry. And, Sherwin Williams Pewter Cast worked so well on the doors. (Thank God for paint sprayers!)
- Black – Behr Limousine Leather worked so well on this cabinetry and doors. It is so bold and has depth. I did a color match using Sherwin Williams Emerald paint and the finish was just awesome.
- Blue – I have refinished a lot of furniture using navy, so have been a fan of blue for some time. This year, I used a light blue and a nearly peacock blue on kitchen and laundry room cabinetry. In one instance, the light blue, the color was warm and subtle. It really added to the whimsy in this laundry room. In another, the peacock blue (Magnolia Under the Stars) is bold and stunning.
NEW PATTERNS
I had a lot of fun adding pattern and dimension to walls this year, specifically with board and batten and stencil.
- Board and Batten – I loved the impact the board and batten made to these room. It was really quite easy to install and added so much interest.
- Stencil – I wanted to add a little whimsy to my laundry room and really wanted to try a stencil. The laundry room was a great place to experiment with color and a stencil!
Stripes, Hounds tooth, Leopard Print
This year, I participated in an online group that made whimsical Christmas ornaments. I don’t make the time to do much crafting, so this was really fun. So many patterns!
So fun to look back and I’m excited about the projects for this year! Happy New Year!
