While there are several alternatives to covering a sidelight, I needed a simple solution in my investment properties and I wanted to use a curtain. For me, “simple” means minimal effort to hang and little sewing.
CURTAIN RODS
I found out the sidelight panel is actual metal — who knew?? This means magnetic rods will adhere to the frame. This also means there is no need for a drill to screw in the brackets. And, there is no worry about the placement of the brackets because you can slide them easily for perfect placement.
These adjustable magnetic rods were an Amazon find and affordable. This set of two is only $24. They come in different colors. I got black for my daughter’s two side lights. I spray painted a set gold for two other doors.
PANEL FABRIC
I made a few of these coverings this week. In two instances, I used a table runner. The table runner is slightly larger in length and width as the sidelight. So, this was super easy. I just made a rod pocket at the top and bottom. This took about 5 to 10 minutes. Again, because the rod is adjustable, I didn’t need to worry about the exact length of the fabric panel. And, the table runner is slightly wider than the sidelight, so, the fabric just gathered on the rods.
I am really happy with how these turned out. I needed a “quick win” project!
