Three Basic Updates to Make Your Laundry Room a Happy Place

Anything I can do to make doing laundry a bit more enjoyable, I am all for it. In my case, changing the aesthetic of the room definitely uplifted the vibe and made it more pleasing to enter the room. Now, to be clear, I am not doing cartwheels over doing laundry. I’m not crazy. But, these three basic updates will easily change the look of the room.

It’s always fun to see the room from the start. My laundry room had a very 1990’s vibe with oak cabinets, medium green walls and vinyl flooring.

Flooring

As with any room, the flooring matters. This vinyl flooring was standard builder grade and in good shape. To match the look of the rest of my house, I chose to update the flooring with hex tile. This tile is also in my two bathrooms, which offers some continuity throughout the home. The tile is from Floor and Decor .

I also updated the molding to be consistent with the rest of the property.

Stencil

The base, wall paint is Sherwin Williams Pearly White. I wanted to add some interest to a couple of the walls and was inspired by this wallpaper. Unfortunately, it cost a lot more than I wanted to spend.

As an alternative, I had a stencil made in this Swiss cross pattern and pulled in the colors (but muted) from my office curtains from across the hall.

And, I hit the road stenciling. I used four different sample paints.

Cabinets

I learned a few things from painting kitchen cabinets in an investment property, so this was an easy update. I used the wall color from my office across the hall (and, also a color in the wall stencil) to brighten up these cabinets. I rolled the cabinet boxes and used the HomeRight Super Finish Max Extra Power Sprayer on the doors. I also added black hardware.

I’m loving this room and a little bit happier when doing laundry. Hope this post offers some inspiration! Happy DIYing!
