Four DIY Gift Ideas for Creative Young Ones

Four DIY Gift Ideas for Creative Young Ones

If you are an avid DIYer, at this time of the year, you are looking for ideas for creative and personal gifts.  For those of you with young ones in your life, perhaps some of these ideas might give you some inspiration to get those gifts underway.

I wish I could say that these Ideas were my own — but, these ideas all came from Pinterest and I either used the inspiration, or frankly, I loved what I saw and made the same.  (Thank you to those who created these first.)

DRESS UP WARDROBE

This one is perfect for the young girl who loves to play make believe and dress up.  This piece I made for my god daughter who loves to spend hours playing with her little friends pretending.

I didn’t start out with a plan to make a dress-up wardrobe, I found this piece on the curb in my neighborhood and then thought about what I could do with it. (Thanks again Pinterest pinners) It took some work to remove the shelf, but other than that, it was painting.  The piece was so solid, I really just applied a few coats of paint to cover and some detailed work in the for the trim.  I added a suspension rod to hang the clothes as well.

PUPPET THEATRE

My god daughter also loves puppets and who doesn’t like to put on a show???  I found an adorable puppet theatre on Pinterest (thanks @katescreativespace) and searched for a piece of furniture I could use to make it.  (Enter my sister’s book shelf.). I removed a shelf and made a hole in the back.  I lightly sanded the piece and used Sherwin Williams paint to to cover the wood.  I used inexpensive fabric from JoAnn Fabric for the blue and red curtains.  The curtains are hung using two small suspension rods.  I found the popcorn containers at Good Will (stroke of luck!)  I found this old suitcase at an estate sale. It is for storing the puppets.  After a good cleaning and some more paint, it cleaned up nicely.  The suitcase took longer to paint than the puppet theatre.

WORKBENCH

For the young man who aspires to be a DIYer himself, this is the perfect gift.  Again, with an application of paint, a pegboard and some stencils, this desk transformed into a custom workstation for your future handyman!

LEGO TABLES

Who doesn’t love Legos!  I saw this idea on Pinterest (Thanks createyouhappiness.com!) and love it.

Hope these ideas gave you inspiration!  Get creating!!!
