Wedding Welcome Sign

Wedding Welcome Sign

I’ve been working on lots of wedding decor items and it’s been so fun! Last week, I finished up this welcome sign that pulled inspiration from lots of places.

Acrylic

My future daughter-in-law wanted an acrylic sign, so that’s where we started! I ordered this frosted piece of acrylic from Home Depot. It is 24” x 36” and was the most expensive material in the project ($47), but not too bad! I have heard you can get clear acrylic and sand it to get the same effect as the frosted acrylic. The frosted is more expensive than clear. I’ll will try that out sometime.

Stand

I envisioned the stand to be similar to swivel mirror like this one I saw on marketplace. The opening in the swivel mirrors is usually only 22”, so upcycling something like this would not work with the acrylic. In the end, it was easier to make a stand.

I used scrap wood to make the stand. I had the “legs” saved from something else and built from there.

I primed and painted the stand with SW Alabaster. It’s my go-to white and I always have it on hand. The tips of the legs were spray painted gold.

I added four small pieces of wood on the side as a place for the brackets to attach. I found these brackets on Amazon and sprayed them gold as well. These brackets hold a thicker mirror or glass, so I used a clear spacer to add some thickness.

Doing a check to make sure the acrylic fit. Phew!

Lettering

I used the Cricut to make the letters. I am a novice on the Cricut but creating the letters was not difficult. It was challenging getting the letters placed level on the sign. In hindsight, I should have used some painter’s tape to mark off a straight line. Duh!

Flowers

I was inspired by an Anthropologie dresser that had white flowers. I loved the ”whiteness” and the texture that it might offer to the sign.

I ordered this mold from Etsy to make some flowers! I used hot glue. I have seen others use clay or resin to make the flowers, but I had hot glue on hand and it was the most affordable option. I was careful not to under/over fill. If I make these again, I will research how to reduce the air bubbles. I painted these the same white as the stand.

I used E6000 to adhere the flowers to the acrylic. These adhered quite nicely!

I love how this turned out!
