What I Planted in My Window Boxes & Planters This Season

I’m always experimenting with combinations of plants that work for shaded spots, window boxes, and planters, and this year’s mix might be one of my favorites. I leaned into lush texture, soft blooms, and easy-care greenery to keep things fresh, bright, and a little bit playful. And, I really like the idea of white blooms to brighten up the area!

Here’s what I planted—and why I love each one. And, here is a link to the blogpost showing an affordable way to make a planter box!

SEED GERANIUM (Pelargonium)

Begonia

Ideal for shade, filtered light. Adds color and soft shape.

boston fern & Brilliance autum fern

Classic and full. Adds softness and movement. Great for layering and containers.

petunia

Easy bloomer that spills beautifully. Adds brightness in lower light areas.

coleus

Bold foliage in many color combinations. Does well in partial shade.

reeping jenny loose stripe

Green pops against darker leaves. Adds light and movement to any planter.

snow drift (caladium)

Low-growing and great for adding contrast. I love this with bright flowers and bright greens.

petunia

Adds brightness and great in shady spots. Long blooming and low maintenance. Pairs well with several plants.

euphorbia (diamond frost)

Delicate and cloud-like. Is a great filler and pairs with everything. These are surprisingly tough!

Happy planting. I hope you enjoy your garden this year. It’s great therapy!
