You all know I love giving vintage pieces new life. And, this DIY science lab table project was no exception! I looked on Pinterest for inspo and really couldn’t find many, if any, science lab tables, so I had to improvise!

I had a table top from an estate sale and it was the perfect scale for the table. The piece of wood was charming, showing hints of where previous owners rested their forearms along the edges. I love stuff like that!
The table top was cut to the appropriate depth and allowed for vertical piece with space for a shelf. L brackets were used as support along the back and shelf brackets to support the shelf. I should have taken a “before” photo, but sharing the photo of the piece primed.
The photo above shows a stool that was also modified for this project. This was an estate sale find as well. (And, just sitting in my garage!) See the “before” pic below. The stool was modified to the appropriate height.
The table and stool were both painted black with paint I had on hand. (SW Emerald Urethane)
The legs for the table were made from plumbing materials. This can be expensive. I sourced these at the big box stores, but found the best value through Amazon. 3/4 x 12 steel nipple fitting. 3/4 inch cast iron fittings.
The legs were simple enough to screw through the flange to the bottom of the table top.
There were two features that really made this table special – LED lights under the back shelf and personalized letters (Cricut) on the back, spelling Jack’s name. I purchased the led lights from Amazon.
I purchased some items to make the table look more like a lab table — the personalized lab coat from and Etsy shop; the microscope; safety glasses; science slides; and, bacteria science kit
This was a gift for our favorite 5 year old. It was a hit!
