Laundry Room | Puppy Room Made Buffalo Check Fancy

With what started out as a kitchen renovation on the main floor of the house, has turned into a refresh of all of the adjoining rooms.  Our laundry room gets ALOT of traffic. It houses the entrance from the garbage (the most used entrance into the house), the dog’s bowls, leases and of course, the washer/dryer.

The laundry room had been painted some time ago with a two tone paint technique and a black border. The laundry tub was stained with paint and the molding was in definite need of a refresh.  I had an extra cabinet from a miss-order of my kitchen cabinets so worked the rest of the room around it. This is what it looked like when I started.

I pulled out the molding and replaced it with freshly painted 4 inch molding.  I painted the walls the same grey color that is in my kitchen and family room.  (It was an “oops” from Lowe’s – and a slamming deal at $35 for a 5 gallon bucket!  I still have enough paint for another room, if I had the ambition!). I primed the black border for better paint coverage on the wall and ceiling. The ceiling paint color is Sherwin Williams Alabaster which I used on all of my ceilings.

I entertained the idea of painting one of the walls a Buffalo Check, but, I am moving in the coming months and the amount of effort seemed to exceed the amount of enjoyment I would get in a short amount of time. Nonetheless, I thought I had an opportunity to try out the look and if I didn’t like it, I wouldn’t have to live with it too long. So, I decided to paint the inside of the door going from the laundry into the garage with Buffalo Check. I looked up a several tutorials from Pinterest and think I I messed it up along the way, to be honest.  I used the grey color from the walls, the light blue color from the half bath and a medium gray that I got as a sample color when I painted my outside trim.  There was a lot of taping involved!

The door knob was brass and scratched up a bit. So, I removed it and painted it a mat black like the rest of the door knobs in my house. I know this isn’t a great long term solution, but, it was aiming for a “clean, sell-ready” solution. And, beside that, black door knobs are not easy to find.  The cute picture was made by Milton’s Makeovers who I found on Facebook!

The cabinet was hung to be square with the right edge of the dryer, so I had a space on the left of the cabinet to fill to balance out the space.  My son, Kevin, cut a cedar board that I had left from a cedar chest that I refinished and to make two shelves.

He hung them on the left of the cabinets with black hardware used for shelves, A tight space to work in, but he got it done!

I picked up some cute bowls for the dogs at Home Goods – and, spent more than I wanted to — but, I just had to have them.

My daughter, Kelly, got me this letter board for Mother’s Day. We posted the names of all of the puppies that come to visit our home regularly.

I am super happy with how the room turned out.  I even ordered a new laundry sink from Wayfair.  Nothing fancy, just clean!
