Really wanting a window flower box but can’t attach one directly under the window? This was my challenge! I live in a townhouse in a HOA community – which means I cannot attach anything to the building. But, window boxes have a certain charm and always look so pretty when overflowing with colorful flowers. I really wanted one! So, a few cedar pickets, flower box liners, nails and some stain were all it took to build a charming, free-standing window, flower box.
Materials:
- Flower box liners
- Cedar pickets
- Nailer/nails
- Mitre saw
- Rymar Wood Sealer (my son had this on hand, no new purchase)
This was a simple build! I wanted the window, flower box to be the width of the window and found flower box liners that were approximately the size of each window. I purchased mine at Menard’s but any hardware store would have them. They were about $8 each.
Essentially, I built the box around the size of the the liners. The liners rested on the top edge of the planter. (There is no bottom to the planter.) I attached some supports at the corners to attach the front/back to the sides.
I dry fit it to the space. And, fortunately, it fit!
It looked a little plain, so I added some decorative wood panels to add dimension/interest. I applied a coat of the wood sealer which also added a warm tone.
I am real happy with how it turned out!
