Vanity Update for Home Resale

Vanity Update for Home Resale

It still amazes me the transformation a coat of paint can make.  When I was preparing my house for sale, it seemed like I was painting everything (with Sherwin Williams paint, of course) – the main floor and the trim on the exterior as two examples.  In addition to that, there was one vanity that I hadn’t replaced over the years because it was really a big project to include addressing the flooring.  The vanity was builder grade and original to the home.  It looked dated but I wasn’t going to invest in any elaborate renovation at that point – it just needed to look pretty.   Also, the flooring needed to be addressed, but that is another story about replacing the carpeting a couple of years ago.

This is the “before” picture of the vanity.  It is in a separate area from the shower and toilet.

There are  many tutorials on how to paint cabinets or furniture, so I have nothing new to add there.  I removed the doors, gave them a light sanding and cleaning and primed it.

Then painted the base and the doors with the same color as the new cabinets in the kitchen and laundry room.  (I don’t have the name of the paint color.  I took my kitchen cabinet door and got a color match.)

I had left over cabinet handles from another projects and they worked great with the new paint color and updated the whole look!  Getting back to the floor (eeek) – there was carpet there originally and when I replace the carpet in the rest of the house, I didn’t carpet this area. My plan was to re-do this space and tile.  (That didn’t happen.). So, I had remnant pieces of carpet and had an installer cover the area.  Looks lovely and easy on the feet!

The aim of the vanity re-do wasn’t to create a “feature” or a “wow” factor.  It was simply to update the look and have it looked “finished”.  Check!
