Vintage Vanity & Storage Made Classic & Current

Vintage Vanity & Storage Made Classic & Current

Sometimes it takes some vision to repurpose vintage pieces while preserving the charm and making them work in newer spaces. These two pieces were gifted to me by a good friend and are about 100 years old. I really deliberated over what to do with these. After some research, I found that while these are old, they were only worth about $150 each. This is what they looked like when I got them.

I held onto these for several months and coincidentally, the china cabinet was the perfect size to fit in a nook in the master bath and the middle section of the vanity was the right size for the master vanity in a condo I purchased to flip.

The china cabinet needed some cleaning and sanding. There was nicotine and cracked varnish to smooth and remove. This took about 4 hours. Some of the veneer needed to be filled in with wood filler before painting.

The buffet required some significant reconstruction. And, at one point, I think I panicked when all the pieces were on the ground. Eeek!

I managed to put her back together again and stabilized the structure and added side panels.

I primed both pieces and painted them Benjamin Moore’s 2021 Color of the Year, Aegean Teal. I did a color match using Sherwin Williams Emerald Urethane. It’s my favorite paint. I applied both the primer and paint with Home Right Super Finish Max. This color is stunning.

I am thrilled with how these turned out. It was a bit of a chore, but in the end, having something unique and classic was worth the effort. These are directly across from each other in the master.
