We Saw It on TikTok… Then We Made It Our Own

One of my favorite things about creating is that inspiration can come from anywhere. This time, it came from TikTok.

My daughter-in-law sent me a first birthday photo board she found on TikTok and asked if we could make one for Hudson’s first birthday. Of course, the answer was yes. But I started thinking about how I could make it feel a little more special.

Not different… Just a little more unique and in keeping with the theme of the birthday party.

The Vision

The Details That Made the Difference. The original idea was adorable, but I wanted to tie it into Hudson’s birthday party theme. So I made a few simple changes.

I added colored cardstock behind each letter to make the wooden letters stand out.

I created layered “wave” shapes behind the photos that matched the design from the birthday invitation.

And instead of gluing the photos directly to the board, I used photo corners to give each picture a finished, scrapbook-inspired look.

None of the changes were complicated.

But together, they gave the board a more polished, custom feel.

Sometimes it’s those little details that make a project feel complete.

My Favorite Part

I love projects like this because they remind me that inspiration doesn’t have to start with a blank page.

Sometimes someone else gives you the idea.

Your job is simply to make it your own.

That’s exactly what we did here.

I can’t wait to see it on display at Hudson’s first birthday party this weekend.

Happy Birthday, sweet boy. 💙

💗 A Megan Tip

When you find an idea you love, don’t feel like you have to copy it exactly.

Ask yourself:

“What small detail could make this feel more personal?”

Sometimes it’s a different color. Sometimes it’s layering. Sometimes it’s adding texture.

Those little touches are often what turn a great idea into one that’s uniquely yours.
