Whether you are looking to update your home, stage a property to sell or build new, overhead lighted fans can date or update the look of the home. I have sourced fans for all those situations and my ambition is to find fan that affordable, interesting, functional, takes up minimal visual space and is in keeping with the style of the home. I volunteer at a Habitat for Humanity and source many materials for their builds and recently, I was on the hunt for overhead lighted fans for small (about 100 sq ft) bedrooms for a few new builds. Here...

Cabinet Doors as a Project Feature!
If you are anything like me, you spy an interesting element on marketplace and see how you can use use it! I’ve done this a number of time with cabinet doors! Here are some of my favorites! Linen Closet This door was from a salvaged bookcase. I used it as the basis for a linen closet. I built shelves on the inside and the face frame was built around this door to fill the opening. The doors on the bottom were built from the shelves of this same bookcase. I just love it! Free Little Library This stained glass door...
Board & Batten Feature Wall Round Up | A Few Tips
I love a good feature wall! The texture, design and color can make all the difference in the world. There are tons of blogposts detailing how to install board and batten (mostly batten) so, in this blogpost, I am sharing the feature walls I have done so far and a few learnings. Here is a round up of my board and batten feature walls! Learned so much along the way! Master Bedroom, Investment Property
Furnishing with Previously Owned Items | Living Room
If you have been with me for awhile, you know I renovated a villa in Florida which I intended to flip. The more I was there, the more I enjoyed being there and decided to keep it. Along the way, I collected some items intended for staging, but, later became items to furnish a winter home. I had a lot of fun finding pieces that would work together. In many cases, I refinished some pieces. In other cases, the pieces were already in good shape and worked well in the room. In this picture below, only the drapes and area...
Popcorn Ceilings | Not hard, just messy
If you haven’t had to tackle removing popcorn ceilings, you’re lucky. It isn’t difficult. It’s just messy! In my recent reno, the property had popcorn on all the ceilings. The crew that I had subbed this out to, backed out on me and I needed to do this myself to stay on schedule. I didn’t take lots of pictures along the way, but I can share what I learned. This picture shows the popcorn in one of the bedrooms. It was the same throughout the house. (And, check out the paint color.) Since this was essentially a construction zone, I...
Kitchen Reno Florida Villa
Taking down a couple walls in this kitchen had such a huge impact to the entire living space. Here is where it started. This is a 2 bedroom 2 bath villa in Florida. Originally intended to be a flip — but, I’m holding onto it for awhile. The wall between the kitchen and dining room was demoed. And the wall between the kitchen and the hallway was taken down as well. Peninsula A wall was added for the peninsula. Some detail, using scrap wood added some interest to the island. With the walls removed, there was a lot of room...
Bifold Door Refresh
This latest investment property had several louvered doors with old dripping paint on the inside. And, since I was itching to try canning on a project, I took inspiration from Erika at Peony and Honey for this bifold refresh. I love how these turned out! I primed and painted the doors first, then removed the louvers with a jig saw by cutting through the louvers down the center. The louvers popped out easily. I attempted to file the spaces with the louvers as Peony and Honey did but found I could not get a smooth edge. In the end, I...
Anthropologie Tassle Curtain DIY
In my latest flip, I brought together disparate decor items to create a cohesive and cozy look in master bedroom. In this case, I got inspiration from these adorable tassle curtains below from Anthro. These tassles made all the difference in bringing together the various colors (blue, yellow, cream and grey) from the staging pieces I collected along with texture! I found these curtain panels on Facebook Marketplace (originally from World Market) that work well with the light gray wall color. The blue from the adjoining master bath vanity and storage cabinet needed to be carried into the master bedroom...
Cozy DIY Kitchen Ledge
For a recent kitchen renovation, I was looking for a feature that would add some warmth and interest without breaking the bank. The simple route would have been to install the quartz used for the countertop for the ledge as well. But, this would have added to the “white” in the countertop, backsplash and walls. Big box stores and the local lumber yard were either too costly or did not have 2 x 15 piece of wood. I improvised by joining 3 pieces of 2 x 6 together – similar to how one would assemble a table top. I selected...
Making Lighting Cohesive & Affordable
Lighting can be pricey, but it doesn’t have to be to make a statement. There are several ways to find deals. In a blogpost earlier this year, I shared some tips on sourcing lights. Check it out here. For each of my rehabs, I work within a tight budget and have to be creative in making the fixtures look cohesive. I found color and shape tie the fixtures together in many instances. In this area, there is the entry light, kitchen counter pendants and a chandelier. (This is midway through the renovation.) I linked the lights together with the cylinder...
Make Your Pantry Custom
The pantry is a key feature in a kitchen so why not make it look custom? This newly built pantry was a blank slate and needed some interest with pattern, color and dimension. The wall paint is Sherwin Williams Alabaster – one of my “go to’s” for ceilings, mouldings and walls. I had a stencil made in the same pattern as the backsplash tile and used three colors I had on hand, in an attempt to replicate the tile. (Sherwin Williams Alpaca, Alabaster, Pewter Cast) Taking a queue from the wooden ledge in the kitchen, these faux floating shelves are...
Vintage Vanity & Storage Made Classic & Current
Sometimes it takes some vision to repurpose vintage pieces while preserving the charm and making them work in newer spaces. These two pieces were gifted to me by a good friend and are about 100 years old. I really deliberated over what to do with these. After some research, I found that while these are old, they were only worth about $150 each. This is what they looked like when I got them. I held onto these for several months and coincidentally, the china cabinet was the perfect size to fit in a nook in the master bath and the...
